Recently the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) was the focus of much news and social media attention for all the wrong reasons, when a spelling mistake was discovered on the new Australian $50 note. The word ‘responsibility’ was repeatedly misspelt. It even attracted international media attention!
The RBA reported 400 million bills with this misspelling have been printed, with 46 million misprinted bills currently in circulation. Whilst the bills are still legal tender regardless, it has been a major embarrassment for the RBA.
A spokesperson confirmed the typo was a result of human error, saying they have reviewed their processes to remove the likelihood of such an error occurring in the future.
Whilst it may seem like a ‘first world’ problem – it just goes to show the importance of proofreading…no-one wants that kind of attention for looking inept.
Here at Professional Property Copy, as well as writing marketing copy, we also offer a proofreading service.Click here to find out more.
